What Men Are Saying
Great resource for divorce recovery!
Craig
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2025 The literal first quote in the introduction to this book: "I never thought this would be my story". That is one of the repeated phrases in my head going through my divorce. This opening set the tone for this book where so much of it was like my future, recovered self speaking to me now. This book covers everything I could think of for divorce recovery. Some of my favorite parts were little things like not focusing on your ex's social media, setting boundaries, trying to "upgrade" in your rebound, and the power of "yet". No matter where you are in your divorce, or how much you've processed since then, I can almost guarantee you're going to find lots of new frameworks in this book!
A Stoic Guide to Strength and Resilience
Bruce Diamond
Ethan Crosswell’s book The Stoic Code for Men feels like a toolbox for guys who are stuck in tough spots. It tries to mix old‑school Stoic ideas with everyday chores – like ‘wake up and write three things you’re grateful for’ or ‘take a short walk before lunch and think about what you can change today.’ The author calls this a “Phoenix Mindset,” meaning the pain you feel might turn into power if you keep the focus on small wins. He drops in stories about a plumbing‑teacher in Texas who lost his shop but built a new crew, and about a veteran in Ohio who turned losing a leg into a marathon run – these bits make the theory feel real instead of some distant ancient lecture. Each chapter also throws a quick exercise: list today’s upset, then write one action that won’t make it worse. Some readers might think this not enough for chronic trauma, and that’s fair; a short daily habit can’t replace therapy for deep wounds. But for most who just need a push to stop scrolling and start acting, the guide gives clear steps, builds simple routines and asks you to trust the habit you’re building.
A Powerful Guide for Rising
K. Walford
This book hit me hard in the best way possible. The Stoic Code for Men didn’t sugarcoat anything it gave me clear, practical steps rooted in Stoic philosophy to rebuild my mindset and my life. I especially liked the daily rituals and the focus on controlling what I can, instead of drowning in what I can’t. It’s a tough but empowering read for any man ready to rise stronger from the pain.
Stoic Wisdom Made Practical
Rodrigo Guanilo
This book takes Stoic philosophy and makes it easy to apply to real life struggles, especially during tough transitions like divorce or personal setbacks. The mix of timeless principles with simple daily practices, like focusing on what you can control, journaling, or reframing setbacks, makes it approachable and actionable. The stories throughout ground the lessons in reality and show how these tools actually build discipline, resilience, and clarity. Pretty solid, no nonsense kind of book- good pick up.
